“Remember that according to the Bible, the heart is not primarily the emotions but rather the seat of our fundamental commitments and trusts, and therefore it is the control center of the whole life. So to preach to the heart means to go right for the commanding commitments of people’s lives that drive their desires, thinking, feeling, and action.” – Tim Keller

  • TestFlight – I’ve been busy writing an app with my bro, so when beta testing time comes around, this is a super useful tool to push out betas to our beta testers!
  • AnkiDrive – So this came out. Looks pretty cool, but expensive.

  • Add a Word, Ruin a Christian Book – Pretty hilarious
  • The Porn-Free Family – Good post by Challies, with even greater insight through all the comments on practicalities of the issue.
  • I Hate Porn – “Pastors, if you are addicted to porn, you are disqualified, and you are killing your church!”
  • 20 Tips For Personal Devotions In The Digital Age – I found this article super practical!
  • Fulfilled Prophecy: Evidence for the Reliability of the Bible – yep [:
  • The Art and Science of the Humblebrag – Great blog by Challies, and something I’m definitely guilty of, as I imagine many believers and those in ministry are. Thanks for calling this out, Challies! Satire was very appropriate here.
  • Strange Fire Conference Audio – Whether you agree or disagree with continuationist belief, it is important to humbly study the posits and Biblical expositions of both sides. It will give you a more valid voice in the discussion!
  • Mark Driscoll’s Call to Resurgence – A great review of the book by Challies. This is the book that Driscoll passed out and had claimed was confiscated at the Strange Fire Conference. I love Driscoll’s preaching, but some of the more recent actions puts up yellow flags on his leadership; namely the pride. It’s a good reminder for us to all look at our pride, especially if in ministry and in the public eye.
  • How to Be Better Bereans – Three part series by Kevin DeYoung
    • Part 1 – 1. Listen to the Sermon With an Open Bible, 2. Don’t Rush On From the Word of God to the Rest of Your Life, 3. Get In the Word as a Way of Life
    • Part 2 – 4. We Must Approach the Bible With Eager Expectation, 5. Be Prepared to Study the Word Deeply, 6. Be Confident That You Are Able to Study the Bible and Discover the Truth of God’s Word, 7. Recognize That Some Things Which Claim to Be From the Bible Are Not
    • Part 3 – 8. Test Difficult Doctrines Against the Scriptures Before Simply Discarding Them, 9. Be Humble Enough To Take the Bible At Its Word No Matter Who You Are, 10. Give the Bible the Final Say In Every Matter On Which It Means to Speak

“I’m interested instead in what leads Miley Cyrus or the midriff-baring girl up the street to believe that in order to prove her adulthood, she must become an object of male sexual consumption. And I’m interested in how the church can offer her an alternative.” – Tish Harrison of Christianity Today

I have a number of blogs started that I still need to finish up and post… Gotta stop slacking. The major reason why is that I’m spending a lot of time writing an app. I feel like I need to read Kevin DeYoung’s book, Crazy Busy: A (Mercifully) Short Book about a (Really) Big Problem

  • As the Towers Were Falling – Getting emotional listening to this account of someone who was next to the plane’s wing on the 81st floor, and God spared his life. We remember 9/11/2001 today.
  • The History of Christianity in 25 Objects: King James Bible – A nice concise history of this great work [:
  • Farewell, NIV – Another via challies. A good explanation on why the drastic changes to the NEW NIV has caused lots of churches and organizations to drop the NIV altogether. Mistranslations, and inaccurate rephrasing, along with the issues already existent in the TNIV. Sad day… I grew up on the original NIV before Zondervan did the bait and switch.

  • Satan’s Lies About Singleness – In light of the shear amount of dating talk I’ve heard this weekend from the young adults in my church community, I thought this was a great article to exhort and encourage those struggling with singleness with a good article. Pursue godliness and God will be your joy, a million times over in comparison. I still sympathize nonetheless!
  • What Will Be the Cost to the Church? – A great article on what the current culture within the church will do to the church with so many men and women with addiction to porn. One topic I’m passionate about in helping men conquer this sin by the power of the Holy Spirit through falling madly in love with the Creator of all things good
  • Sermons Are Not For Liking – In talking about the purpose of a sermon: “Sermons are for listening, they are for discerning, they are for applying, but they are not for liking.”
  • You can now assign yourself gender in DC? – Apparently legislation in a Washington DC is allowing you to choose to put whatever gender you want on your birth certificate and get a new certificate disregarding your biological genetic makeup… so a dude could do it just to go into girls locker rooms… and you can change it as often as you want…
  • How Should We Respond to Homosexuality?  – This is a two-part broadcast from a Christian minister who himself experiences homosexual attraction. He lives for Christ and has died to his own passions for King Jesus and explains the failures of the Christian community to love the gay community, and how to do so well. “Author and counselor Joe Dallas calls on the church to reach out to the gay community with a message of grace that is compassionate, consistent and clear.” Download links:

“As a grace of God, zeal cannot be earned or bargained for, but must be given; as a grace of God, it must be asked for by prayer humbly offered in the name of Christ.” The basic reason we are not more zealous is that we have not asked the Lord for a greater measure of zeal, perhaps because we do not believe that he can or will give it to us.

“God is the highest good of the reasonable creature. The enjoyment of him is our proper; and is the only happiness with which our souls can be satisfied. To go to heaven, fully to enjoy God, is infinitely better than the most pleasant accommodations here. Better than fathers and mothers, husbands, wives, or children, or the company of any, or all earthly friends. These are but shadows; but the enjoyment of God is the substance. These are but scattered beams; but God is the sun. These are but streams; but God is the fountain. These are but drops, but God is the ocean.”  ― Jonathan Edwards, The Works of Jonathan Edwards, Vol. 17: Sermons and Discourses, 1730-1733

  • How Demons Are Like the NSA – Quite insightful: “What sort of profile could the demon-agent assigned to you build by just watching you for a day? How much could they know if they had been observing you since birth, tirelessly taking meticulous notes? Imagine if the demon network had collected more information on you than could be contained in Google’s servers.”
  • Why You Can Rely On the Canon – How can we rely what books are in the Holy Bible and their accuracy? A short answer to summarize volumes of data and records that validate the Scriptures and it’s canonicity.
  • Counseling Cohabiting Couples – As this is a cultural and accepted norm in our culture, it’s still not above reproach nor is it glorifying to God in pursuing holiness and living righteous lives as should be the strive of all followers of King Jesus. This will be a difficult issue to counsel, but the power of God’s Words transcend culture. A survey showing that cohabiting couples are much more likely to get divorced after marrying: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2904561/pdf/nihms-180110.pdf
  • Salvation in Your Final Hour – It’s always hard to know how true someone’s repentance is at their deathbed after a life of sin with no opportunity bear fruit and experience progressive sanctification, but as Shane & Shane say, “Bring Your Nothing”

  • Skyrocket Your Strength And Muscle Gains In Two Workouts A Week! – I might try this out. Most of my first year of working out was 2 days a week, Tuesdays and Fridays after work with my workout buddy at 1.5 hrs each workout, mainly split between chest/tri and back/bi, but not much legs. These days day three is legs and core.
  • The Skinny On Sweet: The Truth About 4 Common Artificial Sweeteners – A treatment of research on artificial sweeteners; pretty good insight, but if you are trying to eat healthy, it’s best to stay away from all processed foods! Meaning: shop on the edges of the grocery store where fresh meats and produce reside, but not the cakes 😉
  • Pre JYM (Jim Stoppani’s new Pre-Workout) – It looks pretty good except I usually prefer less caffeine, or even none. I like the good dose of Citrulline Malate and Beta vulgarism L., but I usually also do 3.2g of Beta-Alanine rather than the 2g provided here. I’d try it if there wasn’t so much caffeine (300mg) at the end of the day. I messaged Dr. Stoppani if there were any plans for a non-stimulant version, and he said there will be a post-workout concoction which is pretty much similar without the stimulants, thus that would probably be the one I would try.
  • The Rock’s Instagram – I got to help Dwayne Johnson when I first worked at Apple, super super nice guy with a killer smile. Lots of good motivational pictures and video!

  • No-Crunch Six-Pack Abs! – Pretty insightful and logical. If you hold something heavy in front of you, you tend to feel your core and abdominal muscles engaged. I never thought much of it.
  • A Comparative Review – 28 Days with the Fitbit One, Jawbone Up, Nike+ Fuelband, and Bodymedia Link – I’ve had a BodyBugg for a year, tried the Basis Band for 3 months, and now use a FitBit One. I’ll have to agree with the author that I love the FitBit One the best, and pushing the button when I sleep and wake up takes a second, so I would disagree with her there, but it’s probably because she was testing out four devices at once.
